Best Dog Walks In Chico

Chico is a paradise for dog lovers, with plenty of scenic spots to explore with your furry friend. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing stroll under the shade of towering trees or a more adventurous hike with breathtaking views, Chico has it all. Listed below are my favorite places to walk my dogs in Chico.

Lower Bidwell Park

Lower Bidwell Park is a classic Chico gem, offering a mix of paved paths, grassy areas, and creek access. Stretching through the heart of Chico, this part of the park is known for its lush greenery, trails, and easy accessibility. The paved paths make it an excellent choice for a leisurely walk, while the unpaved trails offer a more natural experience. I love walking in Lower Park during the summer when it’s too hot to have my dogs in Upper Park.

Leash Rules: Dogs can be off leash from Dawn until 8:30 am after 8:30 am they must be on a leash.

Upper Bidwell Park

If you’re looking for a bit more adventure, Upper Bidwell Park is a must-visit. This area features rugged terrain, scenic vistas, and a variety of trails that cater to different fitness levels. My dogs and I love hiking up the North Rim Trail, which rewards us with stunning views of the valley below. The Annie Bidwell Trail is another favorite, offering a mix of shade and open landscapes. While the trails can be more challenging, they provide the perfect opportunity for energetic dogs to burn off some steam. I don’t hike Upper Park in the hot months I switch to Lower Park.

Safety Tips:

  • Bring plenty of water
  • Watch for rattlesnakes
  • Check your dog for foxtails after your walk, as they can be hazardous

Leash Rules: Dogs can be off on the left-hand side of the park as long as they listen to you. Dogs must be on a leash on the right-hand side of the road.

Tree Farm

The Tree Farm is a hidden gem for dog owners who enjoy a peaceful walk away from the crowds. This scenic spot offers well-maintained trails, making it a fantastic place for a quiet stroll with your pup. The wide-open spaces also make it an excellent place for dogs to explore while on a leash. I love the bamboo forest.

Leash Rules: Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

Humboldt Road Trail

For a mix of history and adventure, the Humboldt Road Trail is a great choice. This trail follows an old wagon road and offers a gentle path with stunning views of the Chico area. It’s a wonderful spot to get some exercise while enjoying nature with your dog.
