Whether you have a Valentine or not this year, your dog is always there for you. No matter what you and your dog decide to do, you’ll both have the best time—because you’re spending the day with each other. If you’re looking for simple ways to show your dog some extra love, here are a few fun Valentine’s Day ideas.

Take a long Walk
Surprise your dog with an extra walk. Dogs love to go out on walks, and what better way to enjoy the day? Plan a trip to Bidwell Park or a hike on your favorite trail.
Walking is also a great way to get exercise and bond with your dog, which will only make your relationship stronger.
Surprise Your Dog With A New Toy
What is your dog’s favorite type of toy? Sherlock loves toys he can chew on, so he’s getting cod skins. Pick something your dog enjoys, make a big deal out of it, and spend some time playing together. The excitement and attention mean just as much as the toy itself.
Donate to your favorite shelter or rescue.
Share the love with dogs who are still waiting for their forever homes.
I like to donate to Butte Humane Society and Chico Animal Shelter, where I adopted all of my dogs. A monetary donation, supplies, or even a bag of treats can make a big difference for animals in need.
Make/Buy Your Dog A Treat
I really like to make treats from Dr. Karen Beckers free download “Homemade Treats for Healthy Pets.” Sherlock loves several of the recipes listed.
Watch a Movie Together
Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all.
Snuggle up on the couch and enjoy a movie night together. Plain, unsalted popcorn is safe in small amounts if you want to share. Some of my favorites are Sweet Home Alabama and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Play Hide and Seek
This is a fun indoor activity for rainy days.
Have your dog stay, then hide a treat, toy, or even yourself and let them find you. It’s a great mental workout and a fun way to spend quality time together.
Get them a Rescue Box
Your dog will enjoy monthly treats, chews, and toys. You will be happy knowing you’re helping animals in shelters through your purchase.
No matter how you celebrate, your dog will love the time and attention most. After all, you’re their favorite Valentine every day. What is your favorite thing to do on Valentine’s day?
